Michael here, and Happy New Year!

While the world slowed down for the holidays, we pushed forward with our team visiting manufacturers, inspecting assembly, and running critical safety tests to get Bía across the finish line.

Beta Shipping On Track 📦

First, the news you’ve been waiting for: everything is on schedule. Beta Phase Two is on track to finish at the manufacturers closer to the end of the month, and we couldn’t be more excited. We’ll share photos and updates from the factory floor in just a few weeks.

Today, we want to share a behind-the-scenes look at something we don’t talk about often... but it’s a huge part of the work we’ve been doing: Certifications.

Certifications Deep Dive 🥽

When you bring a new device into your home, especially one that you wear for hours each night, safety and quality are foundational. Here’s how we’ve gone above and beyond to make sure Bía meets the highest possible standards.

Safety: IEC 62368-1 🔐

This global standard is required to sell electronics in the US, Canada, and Europe. It evaluates risk across: electical, audio, optical, thermal, mechanical, and environemental hazards.

It asks: What happens under regular use? What could happen under foreseeable misuse? Then ensures those risks are designed out of the product before it ever reaches you.

Radio: FCC, IC, and SAR 📡

Every electronic device has to pass radio emissions testing. But because Bía is worn on your body, we face additional scrutiny: Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing.

We’ve passed these tests under maximum power. However, in real-world use, we go even further by automatically shutting off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi during sleep to eliminate signals entirely.

Fabrics: ISO 10993 🧪

Every material that touches your skin is certified to meet medical-grade standards for: skin irritation, sensitivity, and cytotoxicity.

To the best of our knoweldge we're the only sleep mask on the market to seek out and pass this certification.

Batteries: UN 38.3 and IEC 62133 🔋

Our custom battery design fits more energy into a smaller space than anything we could find on-the-shelf. And it’s been rigorously tested to pass:

  • UN 38.3 for air transport safety
  • IEC 62133 for thermal, crushes, pressure, overcharging, forced discharge, and short-circuit safety

We pushed the limits on performance while making sure safety comes first.

Silicone Housing: UL94 V-0 ⛑️

Bía’s electronics are protected by high-grade silicone with the highest fire resistance rating. This means it self-extinguishes quickly and resists ignition, even in extreme conditions.

We don’t take shortcuts. Every inch of Bía is built with care, science, and intention. These certifications might not be flashy but they’re part of what makes Bía unlike anything else.
