We have officially closed the Beta program 🙌

We've placed the order for our chipsets, fabrics, foams, and the many other components that go into creating the Bía Smart Sleep Mask 🎉 it's real, and it's finally coming together 

We expect the factories to take 8-10 weeks to acquire parts, begin assembly, and run through our QA processes. Andrew and I are personally visiting the factories, assembling Beta Masks, and making sure our firmware is loaded to ensure everything is working right before your mask is shipped.

This means we'll have Beta Smart Sleep Masks ready to ship in June.

Thank you to everyone who completed the Color survey! After calculating the results, the answer became clear: Keep the original Grey and Black Skins and add Green and Blue as Premium Skins.

What is a Premium Skin?

The outer layer of the Bía Sleep Mask is removable allowing you to change the look by switching the skin. Premium skins are additional colors shipped separately.

While we were excited to offer all of the colors we had to narrow down it down to a select few for launch.

What about patterns, pastels, purples, and other great colors?

We hear you loud and clear and we will work hard to expand the color selection over the next year.

⭐ What's New

Golden Prototype 🤩 When we started Bia I never thought foam would be our biggest stressor. Getting it right has been a journey but I'm happy to report that the end is in sight! We're on track to finish our "Golden Prototype" this month with full production moving into late April.

Hardware Schedule 🇨🇦 We've placed an order with a Canadian manufacturer to create chipsets for Beta. Choosing local was a big decision! It allows us to visit the factory, communicate efficiently, and ensure the chips we deliver are well-tested and of the highest quality.

We're on track to launch the Beta program in April, with full production shipping in early Q3

⭐ What's New

We've made great progress! 🤩 The manufacturing delay with the foam has allowed us to shift our attention to the little details: tuning our foam-conduction speakers, miniaturizing the electronics, and running tests on our batteries.

App Development 📱 We're working with a leading UX designer to create an amazing in-app experience for you. We're also planning out new features never seen in a sleep-tracker before such as tracking your Energy Forecast throughout the day.

Neural Music Soundscape 🎵 We've been working with a very talented team of neuroscientists over the last 3 months to create our first Neural Music experience designed to double your deep sleep, reduce the time it takes for you to fall asleep, and decrease tossing and turning throughout the night.

New Hires 👥 Some say it takes a village... at Bía, we're building a city. We've welcomed 4 full-time employees and a countless number of contractors to help us with everything from firmware to electrical engineering, to cloud development.

While we have a lot of great progress to share in this update, we also have some disappointing but not unsurprising news.

⭐ What's New

Black, Gray, and Patterned fabric is moving into production. We've began sampling the premium colours - Jade Green, Deep Blue, and Sunrise Orange.

Hardware is locked in 🧠 Firmware development is progressing nicely, and our mobile app is in the late stages of it's design. We brought on Shaun Fickling, a PhD Neuroscientist, to aid in the development of our neurofeedback algorithms.

Neural Music Soundscapes are in production 🎵 Piano, Guitar, Ambient, Rain, Ocean, and White Noise. We'll share more on the music direction in December, but the samples we’ve tested sound amazing in the mask.

Manufacturing contoured foam has been challenging - everything from one of our factories being hit by a typhoon, to our steel tooling cracking just last week. Creating new molds takes time, about 3-4 months to have them reliably built, polished and tested, and that has impacted our timeline.

This means our Beta will be launching in April 2024 instead of December with full production shipping in early Q3 instead of Q1. Please watch the video for the full story.

For the past two years, Andrew and I have been working diligently on bringing the Bía Smart Sleep Mask to life. We didn't know if you would like it's look, be interested in it's features, in fact, we had no idea if anyone would even pre-order.

Now that you've joined us on this journey it's changed things - we're not working for us anymore, it's bigger than us, we're working for YOU... and we'll do whatever it takes to help you sleep better, every night. 🙂

⭐ What's New

Volumes & layering have been locked in 🤩 We ran into issues where the size of the electronics increased the size of the garment - I'm happy to report that this is now fixed! We're taking the leap to create polished steel molds to get the garment ready for Premium and Ultra Club customers at the end of the year.

It's alive! We've successfully been able to connect to the hardware, add in our custom firmware, and start recording data from it's sensors 🎉 We're putting a heavy focus on firmware, algorithm, and app development over the next couple months. As a result I've updated the project status, moving the pin from Hardware Prototype to Firmware & Software.

Garment prototype #4 has arrived 🤩 The team finished the seams without the need for stitching, as well as reducing the density for improved comfort. We'll continue focusing on the look, feel, and comfort as we move into prototype #5.

I'm excited to announce we've ordered our first ten chipsets🎉 huge shout-out to our bio-medical, hardware, and optics engineers that made it possible. This opens the door for testing, and validation, and gets us one step closer to the beta test.

The results from our market study are more promising than ever 🙌

Garment prototype #2 has arrived 🎉 It's possible! It can be built! We've detailed our thoughts on foam density, fabric, and sizing and will be submitting designs for garment prototype #3 before the holidays.

Good news on the hardware as well! Medical grade components for functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) have been sourced, and we're working with an optical engineer to design light pipes and diffusers.

It's becoming real 🤯 After working with a fashion designer, we locked in the tech pack, which allowed begin talking to manufacturers about garment prototyping. From the tech pack, we have been able to create our first 3D render of Bía Sleep.

After months of talking, going back and forth on components, and figuring out which hardware stack will give you the absolute best results, I'm excited to tell you that we've put together a proof of concept that we're incredibly confident with.
