We’re excited to have you with us on this journey to better sleep!
Manufacturing is an incredibly slow process. We have, literally, 100s of components and if an issue arises with any one of them it can set back our timelines. We’re currently working on our 5th set of tooling for soft-goods, and our 8th set of electronics.
Here are the typical timelines we see for electronics and soft-goods.
Electronics (10 Weeks)
- 1 week communicating designs to the manufacturer.
- 3 weeks to print the circuit boards and order components.
- 3 weeks to assemble the components onto the board.
- 3 weeks of testing to ensure the electronics are functioning properly.
Typically we see delays during sourcing of components.
Soft-Goods (10 Weeks)
- 1 week of communicating designs to the manufacturer
- 2 weeks of tooling design in CAD
- 4 weeks to create and test the tooling
- 2 weeks of creating samples
- 1 week for functional testing
Typically we see delays in converting our CAD into tooling designs.
We’re pulling every lever to bring Bia to you as quickly as possible:
- Andrew and I are making regular trips overseas to personally oversee development at our factories.
- We’re in constant communication with top experts, including our highly skilled advisory and scientific boards, to ensure every aspect of Bia is perfected.
- And when it comes down to it, we’re ready to roll up our sleeves and jump into production or assembly ourselves.
We’re all-in and 100% committed to bringing Bia to the world as quickly as possible. Your best sleep is our mission, and we won’t stop until it’s in your hands.
We’ll reach out to every customer to confirm their shipping address before we ship out the Bía Sleep Mask. If this is currently on your mind, you can also reply to your order confirmation email with your updated address.

During the early days at Bía we had a difficult decision to make - should we create a medical device or a consumer device? Both come with their own pros and cons for the business and for the world.
So we did our research:
- Medical devices often take up to 4x longer to develop
- Medical devices often require a prescription to access.
- Only 1 in 8 people with sleep disorders are diagnosed
- Most people seek over-the-counter sleep solutions such as melatonin, blackout blinds, and more.
Together, Andrew and I decided that we wanted to help the most people in the shortest amount of time. It doesn’t mean we can’t set and follow the very same standards set by medical devices, but it does limit what we can say about Bía.
So if you’re curious if Bía can solve a specific medical issue or condition, our response will always be:
“It is important to understand that Bía Sleep is not a medical device and is not intended for diagnosing or treating clinical or mental health conditions. We're focused on helping people sleep by creating cutting-edge technology products intended for general use. If you have, or think you have, a condition, we recommend that you speak to your healthcare practitioner before using the Bía Smart Sleep Mask.”
Features
We're finishing up 3 of our Neural Soundscapes - Piano, Ocean, and Noise. You can listen to samples on soundcloud.

Bia is designed to recognize when you’ve drifted off, activating Auto-Pause to smoothly fade out your music or audiobook, pause it so you never miss a moment, and then power down the Bluetooth for a truly restful night’s sleep.
We've added some GREAT touches to Bía's Bluetooth code that I think everyone will enjoy.
Since you're not able to see your phone when you're wearing Bía we've added programming to turn off Bluetooth when it detects that it's on your head.
That means it's only active when you set a program before bed and to upload the data when you wake up.
The exception is if you choose to enable Bluetooth Streaming to listen to your own music or audiobook. In those cases we'll give you the option to either leave Bluetooth on throughout the night or "Auto-Pause" and turn off Bluetooth once Bía detects that you've fallen asleep.
When you choose to use Bluetooth Streaming, it will be very similar to connecting your mobile phone to your Bluetooth headphones. Anything you choose to stream can be played through our mask. Audible, Spotify, YouTube, Peloton, Calm, Balance - anything you like! You can choose to listen to your audio all night or use Bía’s built in Auto-Pause feature to fade out the audio, pause, and disconnect once you’ve fallen asleep.
Right now, Bia’s magic happens in real-time with your sleep. As you drift from wakefulness to meditation, and then into light sleep, the mask gently dims the light—like a setting sun. As you fall asleep, the music will slowly fade to low volumes, ensuring a peaceful transition into deep sleep.
We plan on integrating with Apple Health, Google Fit, Samsung Health, and Cronometer.
Bia doesn’t sync directly with third-party wearables like Oura, Apollo, or Whoop. Instead, we connect through central hubs like Apple Health or Google Fit, giving you full control over what data you share and where it goes. Your sleep, your rules.
Beta
Participants in the Beta Program will receive one of the very first Bía Smart Sleep Masks from the factory. The feedback you provide through this process will be incorporated directly into the production mask.
Comfort: We’ll be talking about comfort: How does it fit? Does it allow any light in and where from? Was it comfortable to sleep in all night? Did it fall off during sleep? Is the adjustable strap big or small enough?
Algorithms: We’ll be analyzing your specific sleep data. This helps us tune our algorithms to your specific sleep problems.
Functional Issues: We’ll be asking questions about the overall function of Bía including the mobile app experience. This helps us work out any weirdness or bugs in our design.
The opportunity to join our Beta program was first extended to our earliest supporters and limited to 500 participants. Right now, we're inviting existing customers to join the waitlist for a chance to be part of this exclusive group.
Make sure to follow the Founder’s Updates for the latest on the Beta timeline, product progress, and behind-the-scenes insights. This is your direct line to all the important details as we bring the Bia Smart Sleep Mask to life. We’re excited to have you with us on this journey to better sleep!
There will be some cosmetic differences for Beta customers, however, none of the functionality of the masks will change for Beta or for Mass Production.
Face-Facing Fabric: Beta will have a black striped fabric instead of a colored striped fabric shown on the website. The black fabric already meets ISO10993 standards allowing us to ship Beta faster.
Straps: During Beta we will test out a variety of head strap types and thicknesses to find the one that fits the best for the most amount of people. We're expecting small changes for mass-production.
Buttons + USB: Buttons for power on/off, volume up/down, and bluetooth are not shown on our website. We've placed them under the foam and we'll indicate where they are with small indents. We're working on updating the website to show this better.
Hardware
To begin, all of the factories we work with are certified ISO9001 to ensure good manufacturing processes are in place.
We take it a step further and look for ISO13485 certification which is a quality management system for the design and manufacture of medical devices.
Next, we require all materials to be ISO10993 certified which is specific to the biological safety of medical devices (cytotoxicity, abrasion, sensitization).
Finally, our electronics are going through FCC and ISED certification for EMFs. Since Bía operates on your head we're subject to additional EMF testing.
At 100% power we guarantee Bía will last for 10 hours on a single charge. However, it will be rare that Bía will run at 100% power and we expect to increase the battery life to 24 hours of sleep time through software in the future.
If you have a number we can call, we would appreciate an introduction ;)
