Founders Update #39
Michael here! We've been working long hours with our industrial design teams to come up with innovative ways to solve all the Beta feedback. Once the new designs are 100% finalized, I’ll send out a detailed breakdown. While that's in progress, let's review a few big wins and key learnings from the past two weeks.

Our Wins 🚀
Custom Audio Drivers Are Here: While the sound quality from our in-person demos were well received, we knew we could do better. We decided to visit our manufacturer in-person, sit down with their R&D team, and build audio drivers from scratch that can deliver balanced sound within Bía that matches the premium experience we're all looking for.
Firmware Milestone: Audio Mixing: This is big: Bía can now mix up to three audio streams at once, right on device, just like your favourite DJ. That means we can layer live neurofeedback with relaxing soundscapes that transition based on your sleep state. All signal free.
App (Beta) Ready for Internal Testing: We've finished developing the screens for home, select program, sleep journal, settings, notifications, and more.
Our Learnings 🥼
We're Diving Deep on Quality
Every batch of materials is slightly different. The fabric may have a slight colour variation. The foam might be a bit softer. The strap might be a bit stretchier. This is where tolerances come in. We’re taking the time now to define exactly how much variation is acceptable for every component in the mask and which tools we use to measure it. This ensures each mask feels just as premium as the last. It takes more time upfront, but it guarantees long-term quality and consistency.
If you're in the QA business, or have gone through it yourself for a physical good, we're always open to improving. Please leave a message in the "Founder Feedback Survey".
Process Matters as We Grow
When you’re a small team everyone shares the same picture of how a feature should be developed. But as we add more disciplines to the team - such as design, firmware, app, cloud, and product - those pictures start to drift. We’re calling this a shift from “startup scramble” to "structured momentum". That means clearer documentation, shared decision-making guidelines, and better change-logs so everyone’s on the same page. It’s a small shift that will help us build and iterate faster.
This will be dependent on the person and how often you use Bía. Our goal is for the average person to be able to wear Bía, every night, for 2 years, with a normal amount of washing, before replacing the fabric. Don't worry, we'll have deals in place for customers to buy a replacement skin when that time comes.
We'll have Google and Apple integrations ready for launch on day one with others planned in the future. You'll also be able to download your data and upload it into any software or tool you would like.
We've taken all your feedback and put it all together on our website as a dedicated FAQ.
